“Love that Lasts”

October 6, 2024  Chaplain Doug Kinder

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.   1 Corinthians 13:4-9

Introduction:  How do you define love?

  1. Eros – “I love you, IF…”

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friend. You are my friends if you do what I command.    John 15:12-14

  1. Phileo – “I love you, BECAUSE…”

But God demonstrates his own love towards us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have been justified by his blood how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have received reconciliation.   Romans 5:8-11

  1. Agape – “I love you, UNCONDITIONALLY…”

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.   John 3:16-17
